FIX Protocol Monitoring and Latency

"Greenline Bundles FIX Monitoring, Latency Tools"

Greenline Financial Technologies will this week unveil a revamped version of the latency monitoring software it acquired last year from defunct software house Trading Metrics (IMD, Jan. 4), with the new name of Latency Monitor.

Latency Monitor can accomodate FIX and non-FIX market data protocols including the Chicago Mercantile Exchange's and Options Price Reporting Authority's FAST (FIX Adapted for Streaming) formats, as well as vendor formats such as those from NYSE Technologies and Thomson Reuters. It also provides real-time reporting and alerting capabilities for market data administrators seeking up-to-the minute system performance metrics.

"We have a really solid technology base with the existing customer set and a number of prospects that are looking for something that they can easily integrate into their environment to get up and running with little effort, and get some statistics that they can make decisions on," says Josh Tolman, president of Greenline Financial Technologies.

The vendor will also roll out new versions of its MagniFIX transaction monitoring system for FIX messages and its MetriFIX message flow tracking system at the beginning of the second quarter, which will improve scalability and make real-time monitoring easier, with the new version of MetriFIX enabling users to quickly derive useful analytics from large amounts of data, while MagniFIX focuses on non-FIX Protocol adapters, Tolman says.

"We have a number of customers that have FIX but also have proprietary or non-FIX messages, as well as customers that have internal messaging," he says. "The Holy Grail is to integrate all of that, end-to-end, into one product."

In addition, the vendor plans to integrate these products with Latency Monitor later this year. "Before year-end, we want to have all three of these components tied a little tighter together, and have a few that customers can leverage to see all that information together," Tolman says. "That's where we think a lot of the power lies. Unless you get the order flow and market data together... [to display] the analytics together with the latency, you're only seeing a portion of our strategy," he says.

Greenline developed the new products based on client demand for different components of a monitoring system, according to Tolman. "Some vendors out there have one part and others have another part. We see multiple pieces to it, and we think we're in the best position to provide that," he says.
